I know you guys can help me, I bought a DR 4 in lift and installed it a little over a month ago. I followed the directions and now I have a rattle everytime I hit a bump. There is also this creak when I stop or hit a bump. I bought the kit to get rid of these, now they came back.. :cussing:

Any ideas?

Have you retightened the spring U bolts? Shocks? Just go over everything that you replaced during the installation. You will find a loose bolt in there.

Re-torque everything.

Re-grease everything.

Don't live with it, it is not correct, and will probably be expensive when whatever it is finally wears out. Oh, and there is that little safety thing, too :D .

Seriously, though, grease can solve a lot of issues with front-end noise. Get on your zercs and see if that helps.

Re-torquing is something that is often overlooked when doing suspension work, but needs to be done at least once EVERY time you work on suspension.

You had these same noises BEFORE the lift ?

Sounds like it may not be the lift....
check other areas of your truck...
body mounts/ support arms/ fender mounts/ etc...
get a bud or four to ride with you and try to isolate which side and whether front or back....

maybe even go so far as secure your video camera under each corner as you recreate the sound...

I really had a loose shock, or more correctly a completely used up shock, hours before I changed out the suspension

I will get up under her tom when I take a lunch break.
Thanks guys.

Double check your ball joints & unit bearings. I've got balljoints going out in mine and they give the knock when you hit a bump

Eric:
I'm willing to bet money that the squeak is your front sway bar mounts to the body. The factory mounts on my 2000 X were beat to a pulp...looked like they'd be better suited to hold an egg rather than a sway bar. I always sell greaseable polyurethane sway bar bushings from Energy Suspension when I sell Addco bars for the Jeeps, so I purchased a set for my Excursion as well. Not only was the intermittent squeak gone, but the X turns a lot better because the sway bar isn't flopping around aimlessly inside of the sway bar bushings. I had to modify them to fit, as the Ford bushings are a crazy shape and have a longer leg to make up for the "hump" on the frame rail that tensions the factory rubber bushings (for the first few ten-thousand mile segments). Seems like I had to not only place a flat washer or two between the frame rail and the bushing housing, but also had to drill the holes out slightly in order to get them to fit. Oh, no...I take that back. I had to replace the 10mm sway bar bushing mounting bolts with longer ones...35mm long, IIRC, so that they would be long enough to use with the flat washer spacers I used.

Anyway, it's a VERY good mod. Now, if my bar squeaks, I hit it with a shot of grease, which shuts it right up for months again. You can have your lube-shop guy do it when they swap the oil, too.

A loose shock mount will make a "thump" sound, not a "rattle", so I'm guessing it's not a shock. Is your exhaust hitting something, by chance? Grab a pair of gloves, grab the tailpipe tip, and shake it around. Any noises? Could the third motor mount (the tranny mount) be going bad, allowing the tranny to hit either the crossmember or maybe the bellhousing against the body? Just ideas...it's hard to hear the noise from Phoenix, lol.

Hope that helps!

Hey Kevin I am not seeing in my head what you are saying, would you mind posting some pics of the mod you are refering to. I am not at home, I am on the road in Qatar, so I can't run outside and take a look.

Thanks

I took your advice guys and re torqued the bolts, some where a bit loose and others were really tight. While I was under there, I noticed both rear bushings were squishing out of the springs, more then I think would be acceptable from brand new leaf springs (deaver). What should I do? I have thought about getting shackles that are closer together to prevent some of the "Squish out", or a few washers. Any ideas?

Go with polyurethane aftermarket leaf spring bushings.
