Yes and no... It can't hurt, right? It probably won't amount to much, you probably can't even tell the difference, but in my big towing machine, I like to make sure it has all the cool intake air it needs to stay cool when I am running the crap out of it on our local mountain passes. It is not so much a power thing as it is a "stay cool" thing....
I would not put a hood scoop on mine, personally, but doing so is certainly not "pointless".
