I have been running a 203 in my 96 for 3 years here in Fairbanks AK. It has worked fine and the temps are slightly higher than a stcok t-stat.
But I suspect the issue is with either the T-stat or the installation.
If the pump was bad, it would get hot and you would know it.
At our winter temps I have to drive the truck for at least a 1/2 hour to see the temp come up and stat open. At a idle the truck will never heat up unless you have a high idle box. Even then it will not come up to temp but will raise the needle on the gauge and make some heat.
When its up to temp I can see 190-200 air coming out of the dash vents..........at -30 F outside............what a great heater........!
