hey bush, (or any other motorcyclist...), what do you know about a 1982 Yamaha XJ750 ? (thats what it says on the title, on the side of the bike it says SECA 750....???) im no yamaha fan, i actually dislike yamaha more than any other....but the PRICE WAS RIGHT!!! so i bought it....need the fuel mileage savings / cheaper and quicker to fix a bike than a PSD! i was trying to get some info on it, if there were problems i should look out for, "cool mods" for it.
heres the pic from the ad (not my crappy driveway)...

Last couple summers, I've seen a lot of vintage bikes getting hauled out of the back of the barn and dusted off, so the owners don't have to feed their Hemi Rams and H2's

Dude, I've even seen a Suzuki "water buffalo" (liquid-cooled, 2-stroke, 750cc triple) cruising the streets..

As for your Yamaha, I think they had an issue with the cam chain (hard to remember, long time ago in a galaxy far far away, and no coffee yet this morning)... might have had something to do with the tensioner... how does the engine sound at an idle? Is it pretty quiet or does it have a clatter to it?

JL is right...SECA's have to have their cam chain tensioners "watched",
they can get loose enough to the point theyll slap a hole in the case,
lots of owners (hondas of this era had sim. problems) went to a manual
adjuster.

the seca 750s (two headlight model) were EXTREMELY POPULAR
bikes...shouldnt be hard to find parts.

the motors and trannies on these bikes were fairly well built and i
dont remember many of 'em comin' in to the suz/yam shop (that i
worked in) for repairs.

as i recall they did have a stator or voltage regulator issue, some
early failures...

dont know the condition of your bike but know anything thats wrong
w/ it YOU can certainly resolve yourself...i'd be looking for tank rust,
petcock screeen replacement, carb clean up & id run thru the entire
brake system, checking all the calipers and flushing to the front
and rear systems....but again it was a VERY popular (large numbers
sold) bike so parts shouldnt be an issue.

a few pics....

nothing good really, we had 3 digital cameras and all of them were getting horrible battery mileage. i think it was because it was so cold. i did get some OK videos of my brother, and he got a vid of my class' start, however i cross the screen for a split second and its into the sun.....

first pic is of our friend, who is running the youth class (300cc limit) for the first time. he is the one in red in the middle....i thought it was funny how the 3 in a row carried the front end for about 20 feet, none of them lost it!

second pic is the ONLY pics that came out of my brother, as the third is the ONLY one that came out of me. (or that actually had me in it...we have some good shots of other people we dont even know...:dunno)

ill be putting the videos on youtube sometime this week, after i go through the other camera.

AS FOR THE MOTORBIKECYCLE...thanks for the info guys, ill look into it all.
