I just had to fix a flat tire on the X while the camper was hooked up and used the little itty bitty cheapo air compressor I had to air up the tire. It did the job, but I was really worried that it would burn out. (I was running it for 5 minutes, with 10 minutes to cool and it took me an hour and 1/2 to build up the 70PSI I needed)

Anyway, I've decided to bite the buillet and pick up a "portable" (not hardmount) DC powered compressor. I"ve narrowed it down to a QuickAir product or something from Viair and I'm looking for good and bad experiences. (Does Viair make a portable heavier than the 400? Like a 450C or 500C in portable?)

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated. (also any sources for compressors! :) )

The viairs are nice because they dont draw more than about 30 amps.

The OASIS (not portable, but still electric) use start motors and can draw close to 200 amps.

I have the 550c hardmounted under the hood and a 5-gal tank kept at 125psi. I could prolly refill a tire to 70psi in about 5 mins or less.

You know, that might not be a bad idea. Get yourself one of them portable 5-gallon air tanks, and while you changing/fixing the tire, you could have the compressor hooked to the tank and charge the tank (if its low).

I know a lot of guys are using CO2 tanks, and nitrogen tanks also. Just have to get them filled occasionally, but they hold quite a bit of "air" for things like tires.

Get a VIAIR 450, 100% duty cycle, mount in a ammo can, add jumpers.
