I went over to my mechanic's shop this evening to have him to check out my belt and why its riding over my compressor pulley (broken spring on the tensioner). Then we started talking about the new 6.7. He told me a lot of stuff about it....but I wanted to share this bit with whoever has one. The turbo is set to blow off pressure with the wastegate at 30psi. The wastegate is actuated by a vac line. Cremp the vac line (so they did) and they got 10+ more psi out of it. He also confirmed that the truck is designed to where you dont have to take the cab off for normal repairs....he went into some funny stories about lock-tite and the 6.0.

Just some other random info I got.....

If the uritha tank runs out the truck will just idel, if the fuel or oil pressure gets low, then the truck will not allow you to run full power, each injector is coded to a certain cylinder...so to test another injector in another cylinder you have to go into the computer and change the code at that cylinder. And if the truck is running sluggish, take it out of transport mode.

He said he knows a guy that pulled a 17,000 5th wheel from north to south Alabama and got 17mpg. I WISH I GOT THAT!!!!

He was told they might as well get use to being a maytag repair man.

I'm throwing the flag on the 17 mpg towing. I got 17.9 (hand calc) Thursday on a 300 mile trip running 60-75 highway. Lie-o-meter said 18.1 mpg.

Your Lie-O-Meter is actually telling the truth! Amazing. First one that I have seen here that is right on. There is no way anyone can pull a 17,000 pound trailer and get 17 mpg. This goes against physics. There is not enough energy in a gallon of diesel fuel to drive a truck and trailer at Highway speeds and get that kind of mileage. NO WAY!

He was just telling what he heard and I'm passing it along. I have not heard really many consumer reports on the fuel milage....but that right there is an improvement from the recent powerstrokes.

The computer also logs how much of the engines running time has been idel and what has actually been driven. I think that helps with giving an accurated mpg reading.

Anyone heard on the mpg rating when pulling a load?

From what i've heard they have been running any where from 11 to 15 mpg pulling depending on the load. I want to see what the trucks are like in a year or so, im curious if they are gonna live up to all the hype about how great they are

I like the safety features of it, even if it just may be a bad sensor. I think it will save money in the long run.

What makes our lie-o-meter off? I figured it would be the ideling time and acceleration. Ususally when I get going, I reset the the ohd and go a little bit off of what it says.

I just got back from Alabama (currently living in louisiana) and I drove down the natchez trace 48-55mph for about 3.5hrs and ended up with 23.2mpg according to the lie-ometer. That reading is after I accelerated and got up to speed. And going about 70mph on the interstate/highway I got 19mpg using the same technique. The most I EVER saw with this truck when I first got it was 12mpg.

I am quite surprised as well. Each fill up I reset Trip A and the MPG. Each hand calculation is .2-.3 less than the lie-o-meter. The highest I have seen while cruising is 19.7mpg. Best hand calculated tank to date (1400 miles) is 18.2. I'll get 2800 miles of towing mileage at the end of the month.

The crimping the boost line has been around for a while. The Dodge and Chevy guys have been doing it for years. I am trying to restrain myself and hold off on performance mods until after 20K.

So duramax and cummins has a vac line on the wastegate? I don't keep up with those 2 engines and wasn't aware of that. Hopefully though it will help someone else out that didn't know like me. My 7.3 on has the linkage rod right?

Any word on mods for the 6.7? I've looked around and haven't seen anything. My mechanic said its gonna be some tough stuff to figure out but they eventually get it like always.
