Hey guys, Im new to the Diesel world and have some questions. My girlfriends dad is selling his 2004 F250 Harley Davidson 6.0L truck with a 12' toy hauler as a combo deal for $34,000. The truck has 42,000 miles on the engine and is in fantastic shape. I test drove it and everything sounded good and handled just fine everything seems to be tight and right.
But I heard of some major issues that they had with these specific engines for this model year. How bad are the issues and what is the attrition rate for these vehicles? Overall I would like some expert opinions from some Diesel veterans on whether or not this would be a good purchase. I live in northern Virginia and a Mustang just isnt fitting to my lifestyle anymore and this type of truck is just what I need. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

When you say the truck has 42,000 miles on the engine, are you saying the engine has been rebuilt or replaced or what? If the engine was rebuilt what work was done? How many actual miles on the truck? Separate the value of the truck and toy hauler?

That's right heard you the first time, and Welcome to SSD.com. I have a friend who has one of the very first 6.0 that came out in 2003 and it's got 60,+ and he pulls a big fifthwheel with it and it's never been back to the dealer for any more than a oil and filter change. I think they are good trucks.

The truck has just had regualr maintenance done to it. The 42,000 milers are all on the original equipment no aftermarket or replacement pieces on this thing. Initially he was going to sell me the truck for $30,000 and the he offered me the combo deal of the trailer with it for $34,000.

Sounds a little high for a 2004. The truck is 6 years old all ready. Some people like the Harley Davidson, and think they are worth it.

I thought it was a little high as well, WD40, but I checked it on KBB and everything was just about spot on. I drove it and fell in love with the dang thing. I want a truck pretty badly and I want it to be this one. but I need some more good advice from the people on this forum.

price is kinda high, i bought my 03 lariat 4x4 used from the original owner with 60K for 19 grand last year, already lifted, wheels/tires and flawless. in the end its what you wanna pay but i would try to compare prices, kbb is good but in this economy there are major deals out there.

Check prices on autotrader.com cars.com or ebay motors to see what they are going for.

I bought a King Ranch lariat CC last year (I know its not a Harley) with 78K for a lot lot less. In fact Ive seen 2005 XLT CC FX4s with 53K on them go at auction 2 years ago for $9,800 with warranties at Manhiem Auctions.

Is the warranty out on the truck you are looking to purchase? The vehicle is worth what ever it is worth to you the buyer. Don't spend a lot of money on instant gratification.

That's my $.02 for whatever its worth!!!!!!!!!

We've said it before and we'll say it again....the reason the 6.0 seems to have problems is because that is all you hear about. I have 120K on my 2003 6.0 with no issues.

The price seems high though, you could go spend $10k more and get a brand new one with full warranty.

And by 12ft toyhauler.....do you just mean an enclosed trailer? Because you can buy a used 12 ft enclosed trailer for less than $4k.

I would sweet talk your girlfriend into telling daddy to give you a better deal :D
