Nope, I don't think its enough to calculate a real load or to worry about. I got 4 years of Texas heat out of my factory batteries. The were infact still working when I removed them, but the the sight glasses were the wrong color and winter was approaching. I changed them to Interstates and had no issues either until the decided to start leaking acid everywhere so I went with the optimas. I don't think its anymore drain than the radio or alarm is IMO.
I like mine on constant hots like I said. The needle doesn't move after I kill it, and it shows how much cooling has taken place while I was inside where ever I was at. Its not uncommon for me to stop somewhere go inside, and have the needle still showing 150-175 when I get back, same thing with the tranny gauge.
Yes, my autometer is a self contained unit with pyro probe connections and two poer leads from the rear of the gauge.
