Hey folks,
Concerning the oil change process, before you put back the new filter you are to add a quart or litre ( US quart , Canada litre) to where the filter is so that you don't start up bone dry. So 13.5 to the engine compartment , and one in the oil filter compartment.
P.S loved the navy thing :roflmao :roflmao

What keeps the oil in this cavity? When you loosen the filter you loose the oil from this area, so how does the 1.5 quarts that you would add stay there? -popcorn

oil procedure

A little note to what I wrote before , I should have mentioned that once you put back your new filter , then fill it up SLOWLY you will see that the oil filter will absorb your oil and the cavity will fill up. Fill till about 3/4 of the way and you will notice with the filter absorbing it will equal about a quart .

P.S. if I'm not mistaken this is written about somewhere , any follow-ups would be nice .
See ya

Doesn't work for the 6.0 for me. I can't get the oil to stay in the cavity.

Jim, is there a trick to this?

The drain valve closes when you screw on the filter cap. Can't get oil into the filter with the cap on.

I change the filter, then drain using the Fumoto valve. You can change the oil on these trucks w/out tools if your grip is up to the task.

Jesus... remind me never to shake your hand if I ever meet you.. I can get the filter housing by hand, but the drain plug would be a bit of a grunt... unless you use your teeth! :roflmao

Well, I did mention I have a Fumoto valve...no tools required for that.
