I searched and came up short. Now that I have my pyro in I have been watching temps and from reading other unrelated posts have a question about the normal range. I know it has been discussed but I havent found the thread.

I have an 8 mile work commute that is pretty close to non-stop. The highest I have seen the gauge is about 700. A couple of days ago I drove out of town 75 miles and it was about 500 to 800 but ran up to 1100 on a slight incline unloaded at 69mph. Powerboatr said pulling a 5th wheel up a good grade he only hit 1250. Another thing, today coming to work (outside air about 48*) I hit the exit ramp and coasted in 4th and noticed the egt was only about 300 to 350.

Any of this sound off or is it just me looking for stuff not there?

Normal. Just remember to wait for the pyro to drop to +/- 300*F before shutting down the engine. Even 1100*F for short periods is OK. Problems occur at sustained readings over 1250*F.

I can push it to get to 1350, but it takes a bit,
whith atuner i expect its easier
I used 1350 as a point to start letting off the fuel some. some can and do run higher.
my 7.3 i saw it go past 1600 ONCE, i about freaked, jumped off the throttle before things got UGLY, but that was with the predator loaded on 100 hp, foot plante take off, four big tires sizzle sizzle sizzlin 2nd gear :D :D :burnit

empty 70ish we normally hit 650-800 depending on wind

coasting down DA big hill it will drop to 200 or less depending on how cold it is outside

long exit ramps it will cool way down 400 or so even with the trailer

and speaking of trailers at 70ish on flat ground we were holding real good 25 or so psi at 1000-1200 egts again depending on hills and wind,

one more item, i use the egt as a gauge as how hard its working and moderate throttle to hold her at that temp of 1250 or so

well good, thanks. The only event that really caught my attention was hitting 1100 on only a slight grade but completely empty. It started me wondering since you were only a hundred or so higher fully loaded on a bigger hill.

I kind of figured I was concerned for nothing. THanks.

Well I am not proud to say it, but I have pegged the pyro more than once, but only for about 2/3rds of the 1/4 mile! :D :burnit

the 1100 on a slight incline is a bit high especially if you have a downpipe & intake.

For general cruising I generally can take the speed I'm running and add a zero at the end and I'll stay +/- 50 degrees of that point unless there is a steeper hill or one that lasts over 1 mile.
