I'm wanting to put a programer on my truck. I am thinking about the banks six gun because I like the way it piggy backs on the wireing harness instead of plugging in to the computer like some other brands. What do you guys think?

The 6-gun is not a programmer. It does NOTHING to the PCM tables, it alters the signals going to the PCM from sensors tricking it. It is basically an expensive ICP mod.
A real programmer will interface with the computer via the OBII connector and flash a whole new program to the PCM after saving the stock one. For programmers I recommend the SCT XCAL2 with custom tunes from one of the custom programmers.

The banks 6 gun is a low power, high cost 18k mod, It ties into the ICP sensor... Tops HP gain of about 70hp.
Get a SCT X cal2 from Discount Power Parts or Jody at DP Tuner. Both can put a custom tune on a SCT that will blow away anything on the market. AND save your tranny... Something the banks makes no attempt at.

I may get flamed considering the banner that is flashing away right in the middle of my screen as I right this, but here goes anyhow:
General rule of thumb: Banks is overrated and over priced. I made the mistake of spending big $$$ on Banks several years ago. After "test driving" the
stuff for several years, I junked it all and started over with quality priced and performing items from MBRP, ITP, Beans, DP-Tuner, Diesel Power Products, Diesel Innovations to name a few. My ride is now running so much better now, from a performance and economy perspective, than what it did with Banks stuff, it's laughable.
You'd be far better off going with going with xCal2 programer from Jody at DP-Tuner or one of the other site sponsors that handles his stuff.

If the six gun only adds 70 hp why do they claim 150 I have a freind with a 03 Chevy HD we installed a six gun on it and there was a significant diference. But if you have ran the six gun and the xcal2 Tail gunner and you like the xcal2 that much better I'll do a little research on it then. I can get a six gun from banks for 449 dollars because I have the 4 inch ss exhaust from them what does an xcal2 go for and how does it save the tranny?

The DMAX is a totally different application. They can claim whatever they want. Marketing $$ does wonders for Banks. There's other stuff for the DMAX that will blow the 6gun away too.

You can find the answer if you look at Banks own propaganda, er I mean advertising. If you look closely at the before & after horsepower charts, the 150 figure will be before or after peak hp. The improvement at peak hp, will be only 70. They slant their claims like that, while truthful from a certain perspective, they are misleading from the perspective which most customers look at things.
Like I said, over priced and overrated. I had a Stinger Plus sytem that was supposed to be good for something like 90 hp. While there was some performance improvement, it seemed short of 90 hp, it would barely scratch the tires. I put in a DP-Tuner PCM with a 80hp Econo tune, it would literally smoke the tires and I got another 1 to 1.5 mpg on the highway.
The tranny line pressures are increased in the programing in the programmer.

i too have had the 6-gun, and i did like and still do. BUT, after talking to several on here about other tuners (like the SCT), i finally bit the bullet and bought an SCT tuner with custom tunes. BTW, discount power parts is a sponser here.
the diff. was amazing. the tranny shifts better, quicker, and firmer. there are also other parameters that they can tune into each power file.
i still like all the other banks stuff i have (read my sig.), but when it comes to the power, the SCT would be hard to beat IMHO.
