these are 2 fire trucks that we built for the USA Research Base in Antartica we are building 2 more just like those waiting for the mattrax. Custom ordered no A/C so it sucks in Texas to take it some where. They had custom heating blankets for the engine. but they are pretty freakin sweet just thought id share. This is what my dad does we build and rebuild fire trucks for the military and airport firedepts.

Those mattrax work pretty sweet on the snow. There are a quite a few of them running around on the North slope, most of the seismic crews run them. Only thing I am wondering on these is why would they not have AC? Normally the AC turns on when you turn on the defroster to help dry the air and prevent the windows from frosting. I would hate to try and keep the windows defrosted in Antarctica without AC. During white-out conditions the windows get iced over awful bad without it.

Antartica is the dryest continent (humidity-wise) on Earth.

But when the snow is blowing it goes in the heater air intake and when it hits the heater core the windows instantly fog and freeze. With the AC on the moisture is pulled out of the air. I have been there done that;)

Cool--I didn't know that. The gunsmith I used to go to up in MT worked downt here for some time as a welder/machinist/jack-of-all-trades and he had some rather odd stories about how machinery behaves in the temperatures they get down there.

What snow? Along with being the least humid place on the planet it is also a desert. I've been there, done that, twice. The only thing the Ford truck had in them when I was there were 300CID 6 cylinders. Some on the Cat equipment had pony moters on them. Crumm, when were you down there? I was there Summer Support 80-81,and 81-82. Keith

Me TOO. 3 years, 6 months at a time (Summer Support). Once put a 1 gallon can of water outside (temp 35/40).... water was gone in about 6 hours.

Dry, Dry Cold... When you can get yer engine temp up, Defrosters work real good. We kept everything plugged in.
