Power when Towing

Small but obviuos chance here. If you have that many miles on the truck and it still has the CCV (Crank Case Vent) then you may be suffering from a boost leak. I would be willing to wager that all of your intercooler hoses are covered in oil and grime also. A good cleaning of at least the hoses and tubes off the truck might do you wonders.

CCV fills teh IC with oil just by the nature os desgn to keep all teh oil mist or vapors contained to burn. However the vapors fall out of suspension and get turned back into droplets which combine into larger droplets and seep out of the IC boots.

once you do theccv mod, DO NOT clean the ic with methanol, it is will cause a bad chemical reaction with the alum and plastic.
if you must use an alcohol, use isopropyl alcohol (technical) not the clear plastic bottle at alberstsons, or
use a good stodard solvent or diluted simple green followed by a very thorough clear water rinse, x 3. then use a shop vac to blow the remaing water out and leave her sit a for a few hours in the sun to drain. then blow it out again, absolutley NO water can be left behind.
same for all teh big tubes ad rubber hose connections.

What about your tranny? Are you monitoring temps, etc? Does the fluid go black/smell burned?

Also, if the truck does better on cruise control than it does with the throttle pedal, (as was suggested) then you might want to consider the option that your throttle pedal assembly is dead, and that it is only telling the computer 3/4 throttle when you have it on full.

Fluid is nice and clean, haven't installed any gauges yet.

i am a diesel junky and i found a after market product that you will all love it took me about 10 min to install one on my 1999.5 psd and my wife;s excursion and let me tell you i get 5+ miles more per gallon on a aver of at least 100 miles more per tank you need to check it out at
www.888luvdiesel.com also you get more power adverised about 70 hp but i think it is little less all i care about is the milage i get almost 30 mpg with the EX and with all the mods done to the truck about 26 there aint no one that can touch this

Okay, first off, that is just a re-branded Edge EZ or Diablosport ICP module. It will not give you +5 MPG . Maybe it is 70 HP, I don't know.

However, regardless, the problem with the original poster's truck will still exist, even if he throws a power adder on it. It is like getting pnemonia, then taking some cough medicine and saying you've cured the issue. yes, you've stopped coughing, but the root problem is still there.

Additionally, there is a guy that we all know named Dave Whitmer, who has a custom-burned fuel economy chip in his 2WD super duty, has it lowered, with low-profile tires to get better fuel economy, and also has a custom fastback fairing in the back of his truck, has a manual transmission, and he can just barely squeak 26 MPG out of his truck which is specifically modified for fuel economy (and he drives it that way, too).

So, your claim of a 30MPG Ex and a 26 MPG super duty must come from your overhead computer, which will give false readings once you put a power adder on the truck, due to reduced throttle pedal demand at speed (which is how it calculates. It becomes worhtless once you install a chip, tuner, or ICP module)

It is just not possible to get that sort of economy out of an 8,000 pound vehicle by plugging in an ICP module.

Try hand calculating your mileage based off the pump readings. I'm sure that the ICP module probably did help your economy, but not by 8-10 MPG like you think. If you are truly getting 100 more miles per tank, then you are only getting 2.6 MPG increase (100miles/38 gallons) at best, not 8-10 like your computer is telling you.

I don't want to intrude on the original posters question too much... but I seem to have exactly what you describe. I just bought a '00 350 with 99k and all the intercooler hoses and connections under the hood are very covered in oil soaked grime. Is cleaning them just a normal maintenance thing thats been neglected on my truck? or is it a sign something is wrong? I'm sure I can handle removing/cleaning the hoses/intercooler... what about the CCV is something I need to do there also?
