power steering suddenly really easy.

my power steering suddenly seems to have tripled its pressure.i can start turning the wheel,then let go,it will keep turning till it cant turn any more.it does this both directions,its extremely easy to turn,will turn the wheels by itself.i also have 35in tires,it turns like i have bicycle tires on it.any ideas?

time for a steering box.had a 79 f350 that did that.

or you just need to rebuild the steering box because one of the seals is toast.

I'd also suggest checking the regulator spring assembly on the pump itself, it sounds like it may be just sending tons of pressure constantly and not blowing off the over pressure. If this is the case then you run the risk of blowing the pressure hose very easily.

If you decide on a replacement don't get a rebuilt Cardone steering box with the thought to save money. FYI I had one put in and it failed within 6 months. Second one under warranty is good so far.

how do i check the regulator spring assembly,is that also called a spool valve?

i dont know whats its called but the regulator is inside the pressure fitting on the side of the pump.remove the line and then remove the fitting and see if there may be some dirt or something in it.
