I have a loud pop with light pedal. It sounds like a U joint But I can put it in reverse & back in drive & won`t pop. Is there a part in the transfer case that would do this ? Or the stub shaft splines in the trany? Just trying to see what it is before it strands me.

my guess would be the slip yokes..
it's common for them to stick.

check your spring bushings,

I have a good pop right now because that is a pain to reproduce and after replacing just about everything in the front end I finally figured out that it is the worn bushings in the eyes of the springs. Mine usually shows itself in a turn but not always.

There was a problem with the t-cases in the OBS trucks that I believe carried over to the SD trucks where the lube pump for the t-case would break. The OBS Trucks were 1354 or 1356 transfer cases depending on year. Here is a good thread on these transfer cases. Maybe someone else can tell you what model t-case is in your truck since I don't know off the top of my head.

Tell me that these bolts come out easy & it would be about a 1 hour job. Yea I know better , but is it just worn bolts or are the bushings wore?? I have heard stories about trying to get the old bushings out. Where do I get parts from - Ford? Thanks for the help.

Don't overlook the trans/motor mounts, sounds like you might have one o' them broken if the springs aren't the culprit.

bushings are a 1-2 hour job if you have a well equipped shop usually it turns into at least a day job. If the bushings are completely shot then you may just fall out (there's always hoping right) The bolts usually don't wear out it is the rubber in the bushings that dry rots and gets compressed.

For replacements you can go with ford OE Stuff or get aftermarket poly bushings that tend to last much longer, are a bit firmer but have tendency to squeak if not lubed with the proper gunk. Usually a token amount will come with the bushings but it is enough to keep it from squeaking at the beginning but they start squeaking in about a year. I found some stuff I ordered when I put poly trailing arms in my DD that is working well 4 years and almost 100k later. If you go poly Energy Suspension makes good stuff and autozone can order them and has a very good price.

Easy check for the bushings is going to be to jack and support the frame then pull the bolts out of the rear shackle & spring and look at the hole in the bushing. You may be able to tell by looking carefully at the busing on the outside.

keep hope alive...

did you try to pry the spring eyes around with a decent bar to see if you get any slop?

I'm not trying to contradict Brandon, he has his feces cohesive.. :sweet
but we're guessing because we're not there..
