Plugging in your truck.

I try to plug in my truck when the weather drops below 20. I have the cord hooked up to an outdoor landscape timer so I set it to my work schedule, that way I'm not wasting electricity. Currently I have it set up to warm for 5 1/2 hours. My question is what is the optimum time to be plugged in? Thanks.

4 hrs works well.

If you are running the Ford Gold junk coolant i would not go over 3hrs because it is 1500wt heater and you may cook the coolant and the silicates drop out even more to help plug the oil cooler. If using the CAT EC-1 Rated coolant you don't have that problem plus over 3hrs a waste of money.

On my 97 I had the timer on for 3 hrs before I would leave in the morning. Like said above, any more time than that is a waste of electricity.

3hrs. Is plenty. Unless you love high electricity bills.

Three hours will work its magic. Mine started at 18F without plugging it in. I waited until I heard the igniters were de-energized and it started rigth away. Starts way better than my old 6.5L chevy.
