I was up there in the early nineties, that place looks EXACTLY the same. I was training the water and wastewater operators how to collect source water samples to determine what their water treatment system needed to do to make their water potable. They stuck me in the one hotel (if that's what you want to call it) they have there, definitely not a mint on the pillow kind of establishment. I've visited a bunch of other villages around Alaska, and Kaktovik, by far, was one of the most 'interesting', the isolated feeling you get up there is eerie.
