my truck is stock, engine wise and i was wondering what i can do to it to jump the hp and tq up a significant amount, also something that doesnt slam the bank account and wont hurt other components of the drivetrain because of the new power

i'm a 6.0 owner, so i cant tell what to do exactly, but there are tons of threads on here about what your wanting to do.

so do some searchs, and you will come up with lots of low cost MODS that you can do for your truck.

We can help you jump up the stock HP and TQ numbers significantly but in all honestly there is no way to do it without slamming the rest of the drive train behind it. The clutch, pressure plate and flywheel and tranny were put behind an engine that was capable of 225 hp and 400 tq. They will take some mile abuse but dont expect them to last long if you are shooting for 300+ hp. The tranny will do OK but you will do a clutch and flywheel.

List of HP increasing mods.

  • 10K mod
  • Intake, downpipe and exhaust for freer flowing air
  • FPR shim for adequate fuel pressure
  • PCM tuner such as SCMT or the like
  • Reprogrammed PCM from someone like DP-Tuner
  • Multi position chip from someone like Twildman
  • Fuel system from ITP
  • Super Duty HPOP for little oil
  • Aftermarket HPOP for "big oil"
  • Injectors Stage I or II give significant gains
  • Upgraded turbo
  • Propane or water/meth to help burn it all.

The last for or five bullets there are big gainers, the first several bullets just get you ready for the big gainers. Realize also that I did not list gauges but IMHO they come before bullet #1 for safety's sake.

what about the tuners, are they as easy as they seem, just plug them in and bam, extra 100hp and 150tq,if they add that much, will they tear up the stock drive train quick

I dont think you'll see a realistic 100hp/150tq gain on the tuners for the first gen PSD's. For those trucks the best bet is a custom burnt chip or custom PCM. The tuners just seem to be mediocre in the early 7.3L

go call Tony Wildman! His chip really "woke my truck up":sly But you need to know that without the injectors to go along with the chip you are not going to get actual advertised HP numbers. The chip can only flow so much fuel through the stock injectors.

have you done a single mass flywheel conversion for your truck? if you have a LUK single mass conversion, have no worries, if you put a chip on it the clutch should be fine until you go for bigger sticks. in that case you will need to upgrade the clutch. get guages, then intake, downpipe/bigger exhaust, chip from DP-Tuner or tony wildman, if you still want more then get some diy stage 1 injectors and a better clutch. oh yeah and somewhere in there you may want to get an intercooler before you try to get injectors and stuff. i would say you can get away with a chip on your clutch if you have a single mass conversion.
