splits were available in 97 cali emissions models.94.5-97 PSD were non wastegated.there were some suttle changes in the engines from 94.5-03biggest changes were the timing cover,fuel filter,valve cover gaskets and a few small things.

The 94-97's also have a mechanical fuel system whereas the 99+ have an electric system. On the chip vs tuner thing: A chip can switch programs on the fly while the tuners cannot. Cheers!

That isn't that good for a 2WD and 5-Speed. You should be able to improve on that if you open up the intake and exhaust. I am lower due to 35" rubber and 4wd.

Ya that's what I am hoping for a few more mpg. I was told some trucks similar to mine get 18 and even 19 when stock. But hopefully with the few mods I plan on doing I can see a few mpg increase.
