I'll be on the HF as soon as the weather clears and I can get some wire strung. My HF antenna that has been gathering dust in my steel arch building will have to wait until the concrete sets on the tower foundation.

But I WILL be on the air soon and hope to work all of you guys with ham tickets, it will be great to hear the voice behind the posts!

Are you STUDYING or just trying to memorize the answers to the questions?

Do yourself a favor and actually try to understand the concepts of the small amount of theory on the General exam. If you can do the basic calculations regarding changing frequency to wavelength you'll have quite a few questions nailed right there. I had problems with remembering the frequency privileges and modes allowed for a General class license, it took a while but it clicked.

I took the practice exam for Extra and only missed passing by one question, and I had never studied the material. BUT, I worked in broadcasting in the military and civilian worlds, and did take two semesters of community college electronics back when dinosaurs walked the earth.

ANYONE can memorize the answers, KNOWING what those answers mean is more important. Take your time, it's not like you can't get on HF at all. If you are a Technician, you do have voice privileges on 10 meters. 10 meter propagation is in the porcelain receptacle right now, but it is some HF space that you can work.

Do it right, get a study guide, find another ham who can help you with your questions. You'll thank yourself later. Best of luck to you.

Actually, that's how I passed the Tech test. I did about 5-10 practice tests a day and watched my scores. When I was consistently over 90%, put the $10 down, missed two - got KI4Dxx as a result.

General stuff is more technical, or so it seems, I don't have nearly the time I did when I was practicing for Tech plus I"m not in the middle of reading "Now You're Talking", all bad news from taking an exam standpoint.

However, I now have a General study guide that I got off K6Cxx, who just passed his General last Saturday. I'm up to chapter 5, will do a couple more chapters tonight. I definitely need to get the frequency to wavelength business down.

There's a class/exam this Friday night for about an hour with our local ham Club. Wish I could go but my son has baseball practice, I'll have to see if I can skip out. But I gotta practice more.

Congrats to all who passed and the ones that will pass! Got my Extra in Dec.. Maybe we should try and do some type of SuperDutyDiesel net, on one of the bands? Just a thought.
