Is there a way to adjust the parking brake cable? Mine goes all the way to the floor. Will I just have to buy a new one?
Thanks,
Jesse

I adjusted the parking brake this past December by removing the rubber plug, pushing down the parking brake 2-3 inches then turning the star wheel with a flat blade screwdriver till firm.Release the brake move the truck, stop, set parking brake which should be noticably more firm, apply some accelerator pedal and the truck shouldn't move.:sweet

So it's the same on drum brakes as it is on disc brakes? I can try the reverse thing on disc brakes?

I "believe" for drum brakes the wheel and drum must be removed to adjust the parking brake(at least for our Mustang not sure about older trucks)-popcorn

Jesse,

If yor parking brake pedal goes to the floor, probably a brake cable has snapped, or the cable pulley (pedal assy) has split apart - as mine did).

I removed my old OEM pedal assy and saw the pulley was split apart and the forward cable was permanently wedged into the pulley halves. The forward cable was also badly worn and frayed.

The local Ford dealer ordered me a new pedal assy and forward and intermediate cable (intermediate cable badly corroded, I didn't like the looks of it) for about $138.00 out the door.

Parking brake works good now.

The only adjustment is made at the slotted access holes to either expand or contract the parking brake shoes

Hopes this helps,

Where is this pic, on the inside of each brake or the pedal housing under the dash?
