Gotcha. Yeah, probably some truth in that.

Our federal tax on diesel is already 24cents p/g ($7.20 per tank for us), and they want to add another 12c ($4 p/tank)? Again, that is before the state dings it! PLEASE!!!

I'll get off my soap-box. I just wanted to make sure you all knew what is going on...

yup, the new order is coming (blue monday is now playing in my head, thanks BJS).

the infrastructure system that eisenhower built is past its design life. more bridge collapses like the one in MN are going to happen until we start spending money and fixing and rebuilding things. ASCE extimates that we need to spend 1.6 TRILLION dollars over 5 years to make significant impact on public safety. look here

Infrastructure Report Card 2005

i think they are doing this to create aggravation for obama. iirc, he has stated that the gas tax, as it currently stands is a poor funding model. so georgie boy may have some lasting legacy as a good president? :dunno

as it stands, people driving high mpg cars, including the hybrids, are taking advantage of the road tax system (me too at 48mpg on the jetta). we should really pay TWICE under the current system to be fair paying for the road miles we drive. same thing goes for WVO- they don;t pay road tax, yet. but don;t fix what ain;t broke.

cow flatulence- you think they are trying to cash in on the future 'FREE' electricity that is not being regulated?

Its not as bad as the livestock tax they are trying to get through. Its actually on the books as a flatulence tax. Apparently dairy farmers will have to pay a tax on cows because the methane they produce is damaging the ozone layer. And no, I'm not joking or half way into a bottle of Jack.

or the registration/microchip system we'll have to subscribe to in order to move livestock off-property.. Michigan_Against_NAIS : Michigan Against Nais

Although only one opinion.. I can attest to that !

Looking back at our recent 11,000 mile RV trip, On a scale of 1 to 10, I would say that our Interstate System is at a 6. Open road sections were good, but in and around major cities it's a 3.. at best. We found the State Highways were in much better condition, as compared.

Past it's design/service life ? YES, But A Lot of the problem is Lack of Maintenance, and that where the fuel Taxes come in to play.

Personally, I can understand why we probably need a Fuel Tax increase.. but NOT some Knee Jerk 25/50% thing that would end up supporting some.. Out Of Control... Governmental entities immediate or future agenda.... that has nothing to do with our transportation Infrastructure.

Can you say: E P A Stuff ???
