When I go slowly up a twisty hill my truck overheats almost instantly. The fan clutch feels ok but I am thinking and elec problem with it.. Any ideas ? Rad fins look clear. I replaced the t-stat in Dec but no probs on a 1k mile trip to CA and back.

If it's not puke'n coolant.. I'd suspect that Ford Temp gauge. They're not known for their accuracy.. at all.

I have a add-on mechanical temp gauge and can watch the t-stat open & close.. during a hard pull.. The Ferd gauge NEVER moves.

(If you replace the stock engine temp sensor/thermocouple.. get one from FORD. One of the members (TG) had some real PIA issues with after-market ones, IIRC.)

Thanks, but it is truly overheating puking coolant. Does that sender control the fan ? I think that is the prob cuz I never hear the fan kick on.

Well then.. I hate to be the one to say it but... Being a 6.0... you may have Head Gasket issues.

I'll defer the rest to.. the 6.0 guyz. :(:sorry

But it ONLY does it going up a slow hill. Not in traffic sitting still. Being a 6.0 I want to get rid of it.

My truck did the samething. Only under a load did it show. Start it up and look at the back of the Degas bottle, is it bubbling? If so you need Head Gasket. Also around the Degas bottle cap there will be white crap on the bottle.

6.0 engines only overheat when they have a blown head gasket. Unfortunately this happens too often. Check your degas bottle for form or white crap in it, as Dogman has suggested. If it is your head gaskets, add head studs when you change the gaskets or have them done.

So the fan clutches and water pumps never go bad and even if they do it wont overheat ?:lmao Yes Im being a smartass in a thread I asked for help in.
That is one of the most rediculous statements I have read in awhile.

No, there is no white crap buildup, foam or bubbling on or in the degas bottle while running.

Ok, I will give it to you about my "ridicules" statement. What I meant to say is that the 6.0 doesn't generally overheat without something going wrong. And that something is generally the head gaskets. Yes the water pump can go south and so can the Fan and Clutch. Your comment about only overheating going uphill under a load points to the head gaskets. If the water pump was out it would run hot anywhere, after it warms up. The fan is a non-issue. Mine has come on about 5 times in 135,000 miles. I tow some but mostly run empty. Your smartass has been recognized and acknowledged.

Dave :)
