I think I'll pay a visit to the parts store I use.... I be they can at least read the codes for me, then I'll come back here and see what they mean!

Thanks for the info, Eric!

Not a problem! We help each other out!

Big Joe makes a good point as well! Some times those cool to have mods aren't all that.

It was recommended to me by a Deisel Master Mechanic to not let the truck idle for more than 5 miuntes. I did not bother to ask him why specifically. He said simply that it wasn't good for it.

Perhaps, your symptom is simply caused by the long idle time at an increased RPM. :dunno

I'm just throwing this out for Whatever's.. so be gentle ? ;):)

A non-PCM controlled High Idle shouldn't be used for a Warm Up.

Reasons being: the PCM, Cold Start functions work together. When we Force (so to speak) a High Idle.. against what the PCM is attempting to do.. in sequence... All kinds of things can be negatively affected.

I post this because.. In my recent search for the Perfect Chip, one of the Tunes I wanted was a 1100 rpm High Idle. In most all the conversations I had, with the Makers.. they recommended.. a Chip/Tuner controlled high idle NOT be used for warm ups.

Better A/C in traffic ? Jump Starts ? PTO ops.. Yes. Faster Warm Ups.. No.

:coffee

THAT makes sense. First time I've heard it, but it makes sense. Considering what I've noticed since the high idle mod was done, I would say that the PCM and the high idle mod aren't working against each other... they're working WITH each other.

Basically, what you're saying is to let the truck warm up normally.... once the truck IS up to operating temperature, the high idle mod can be used for the reasons you stated.

One of the first things I noticed after getting the high idle mod done, was that occasionally the idle would slowly increase to nearly 1800 rpm.

I think I'll change my "routine" a little, and only use the high idle mod the way it was intended to be used.

Yeah 1800 is a bit high. My F350 automatically goes to 1K from idle after 1 minute of sitting still, in park, no pedals touched. I don't know how long it will do that, probably until it reaches NOT (Normal Operating Temperature) but I haven't tested it, or asked that question. I think I will look that up!

We can only hope so. It seems like the last quarter of 2011 was designed to extract money from my bank account and spread it around. Mainly to Volvo to fix my big rig, but some got spread to Ford also.

I've been kinda hoping that crap was OVER.

I understand that! One thing is for sure. These trucks like to be paid attention to. They get jealous and lonely quick. ...Kinda reminds me of my wife... yeeeaaahh..

Anyway, I would see about those codes and something to monitor the engine with. Check around you may find someone that has upgraded to something more flashy and you could get a good deal on a used good condition module.

Have a good night!

Eric, I bet you STAY in trouble, don't you?!! Neck get a little cramped-up sleeping in the dog house, eh? :lmao :stir

Me too! :sweet

I learned a LOOOOOOOONNNNNNG time ago that the way to keep MY wife happy is to NEVER buy her anything she can wear without her being present. Even THEN my job is to stay as far away from the transaction as possible.

Fine by me. :sweet

Seriously, the only thing I get my wife now after nearly 30 glorious years (is she looking over my shoulder?) of marriage falls into one category.... JEWELRY.

She's like a crow or raccoon... all that shiny stuff gets, and keeps, her attention.

She loves it, and I don't mind not hearing gripes like "It's the wrong color" or "It makes my ankles look fat" or some other BS.

I use my manual fast idle switch all the time in winter. Never had any problems.

Dave

:dunno

The length of Time at High Idle.. seems like it would/could make a difference too ?

Yes it does Joe. I use to to warm up the truck and not much more. I can see getting into a bunch of trouble with it.

Dave :)
