New *active* member, but I've been lurking off and on for maybe six months. I was brand new to the diesel world with my 2008 purchase of an '05 F-250 SD XLT. Loved it immediately, but the more I learned about it, the more I started thinking I made a mistake with the 6.0L. Only mod when purchased from Ford Certified Pre-Owned was a huge exhaust (model unknown) that gets plenty of positive comments.
A diesel mechanic friend of mine taught me a lot of the basics, but wasn't big on modifications, so I never did any. She's got 120K miles now, and I've been good about the filter and fluid changes since ownership. I tow a 28ft enclosed Haulmark once every couple years when I move. I suspect it's obscenely overweight, and my ball hitch is not configured properly, but she got the job done (albeit barely) on my last move from Huntsville, AL to Kansas City, MO (not southern, I only worked there.) I really need to put it on a scale somday.
Former Army EOD, and now work as a security contractor teaching advanced counter-IED stuff to active duty EOD units, worked a couple WPS/PSS contracts, and try to get over to Iraq and Afghanistan whenever I can for gigs with different agencies.
Anyway, I'll have plenty of questions, not much advice to give just yet. I've gone through posts back to a year and have a pretty good idea where people stand on what. Looks like some conflicting info on occasion (in the diesel enthusiast community as a whole - not just here), but then again, that goes for most every auto enthusiast sub-category out there.
Hope to not irritate people,
JP
