I pulled my Hot Rod lincoln to Salt Lake yesterday to get it dyno tuned. I pulled it on a 6500 lb 30' gooseneck. Car weighs right at 4000lbs. So, 10500 lns behind me, going up parleys I started smelling coolant. It was not strong, but it was noticeable. I hit a little under 220Degrees going up the hill. I stopped on top of Parley's to check where the smell came from, but could not find any leaks. The coolant bottle was a little low but nothing major. Now, driving around with nothing behind me, the temp sits at about 190 in the city. i am not smelling any more coolant though. Ambient temp varied between 45-55F throughout the trip.

Any suggestions?

Also, I think the turbo's going out, it started doing the "turbo Fart" thing. My boost gauge would jump 5 lbs and you could hear a "backfire" coming out of the intake.

This is what I had behind me.

At 220 degrees you might have just been smelling some hot vapor coming out of the overflow tube. Keep an eye on the level for the next week or two and make sure it doesn't drop.

could be youre egr valve is hanging...mind did the boost buck
but only did it under load while towing...a way to TEST it might
be to disconnect the egr (when the truck is turned off)...the
go back to your towing and see if you get the erratic boost.

i am of course assuming youve got a 6.0
