oil use

My dad has a 2000 V-10 Ex with around 124K on the clock. He said that every 3000-3500 miles, it uses about a quart of oil. He says no smoke, or drips. I know it's not a diesel, but I was hopin you guys could help. Thanks

Most car companies say 1 quart per 1000 miles is normal for any engine. Hope this helps Mike

our v-10 motorhome uses a little more, probably because of the high rpms the v10 runs at. being that we are pushing it so hard with the 30' rv body pulling the race trailer, through the new england hills....we make sure to change the oil every 3k.

i wouldnt worry about it.

Well according to Ford 900-1000 miles its time for another quart. I had a v-10 and it used 3 quarts between oil changes. That engine's doing well if its only using that much every 3k-3.5k.

ok, I'll let him know. This is good info. Thanks for the help. I did forget to mention that it just started doing it though. He's had it for 5 yrs. Don't know if it'l change any info, but just thought I'd throw that out there.

Even for Gasoline powered trucks I highly recommend Blackstone Laboratories for they're saved my engine more than one time.

A $20 test is cheaper than a replacement engine in my book.

check the coolant for you missing oil! those like to eat oil coolers from what i have heard.

how is the air filter? on vehicles where the crankcase is vented into the suction side of the air filter, if the filter is clogged it will suck significantly more fumes from the case and can account for a noticeable oil loss.
