Here's 4 oil samples


The top is Amsoil 5w30 5500 km

2 is Royal Purple 15w40 8000 km

3 is MC 15w40 5000 km

4 is Texaco Ursa 15w40 5000 km


2 syns and 2 dino's, which is better? All seem pretty close.

Just for anyone that was wondering, and if you can figure the chart out

Im not sure this shows anything...looks like 4 diff. engines and the
HIGHER mileage <oil> has more crud in it <which isnt surprising>.

by these indications the top TWO have issues...which doesnt
bode well for the synth. argument.

kinda goes back to what ive always said...more FREQUENT oil &
filter changes COULD offset the longievity & cost of using synthetics

ok what is equipment meter vs. the other meter...the dates and
the mileage seem to be outta order...it looks like the wear on the
engine may be increasing.

and in the 1st case i wonder was the truck working harder <towing ?>

any signs of coolant in the oil ? <these reports are a LOT harder to
read than my blackstone labs reports>

have you replaced the air filter <from stock ?> looks like you were
injesting some dirt <high silicon>...wondering if youre running an
aftermarket filter or the filter needs changing.

either way it seems w/ the 1st 2 samples (from the top down)
that the synth oil (in sample one & two, again im counting from the
TOP down) is showing wear issues...dont know if the synth oil is
causing that (cant imagine why it would)...or youve got other NEW
wear issues since the sampling (using conventional oil in samples 3 & 4)

The bottom portion of the sample, Oil condition and particle count shows whether there is fuel/coolant etc. Under 2% fuel they put down no fuel under the chart and will say in the reply what the % was if any. No comment is less than .5% and they don't bother with it. I have had 0% fuel dilution and coolant in the sample as I have gone in to talk with the technician at length about the samples.

I started samples at 35000 km, the bottom one (In each on the sections they relate to the other part of the sample) ie. the top sample relates to the 1st one in the next section and to the 1st one in the 3rd section(Oil condition and particle count)

The 3rd sample says 40000km on compartment and 40000 on meter, it should say 45000 on meter and 5000 km on the oil.

For each sample I changed all the oil as well as I haven't got a
Fumoto oil valve yet.

Actually I see all the compartment/meter readings are the same, I will fix that for later. thanks.

The last two samples were also done with a newer testing technique for testing the oil condition, soot, oxidation etc. They had changed they machine or updated the way they exmanine the particles, which is also why the big difference in the last two samples.

I've seen the BSL reports and they are set up nice. Finning Caterpillar is a block away from my house, I drop the sample off and have an answer the next day.
