Howdy All,
I am hoping to get an answer concerning oil prices. It is my understanding that OIL SPECULATORS are the one's that are the driving force behind the increases. Since the oil futures are so high these speculators would lose their pants if the prices came back down.
Is their any way (God and y'all forgive me for this next phrase) for our government to take us (the U.S.) off of or out of this form of oil pricing? Is it not possible for oil prices to be set around 30 - 50 bucks a barrel? I know this is a far cry from 10.00 a barrel oil that we have enjoyed in the past, but I am trying to be reasonable.
And lastly, this is just me ranting a little bit, so bear with me......If we are going to have troops in the Middle East and so many groups insist that we are only there for oil, why not go ahead and use those troops to surround the Saudi oilfields. You know pretty much annex these fields, and make them the newest U.S. territories, kind of like Guam or Puerto Rico. If we are going to be accused of this, why not go ahead and BECOME guilty of it? We could even raise a flag from the good ol' Texas revolution that reads Come and Take It. But as I said this part is just me ranting.

You are omitting a major factor in the price of a barrel of oil...Supply and Demand. The economies of China and India are growing as are their thirst for oil. Face it...the price will never be what it was.

Thus one of the FEW TIMES I want government involved in something of this magnitude.

Craig,

I agree with your theory, but if we let the government get even MORE involved in lowering oil prices, it will not be lucurative for others to find alternative means of fuel. The only way (IMO) other means of energy can become viable, is if the oil companies (supply and demand) price themselves out of the market. I think that if the price of oil continues to climb, we will see more and more options for energy. We are already seeing a big jump in BIO options for our trucks. Mostly due to the cost of oil continuing to climb. (just thoughts from a ramblin' redneck)

we have enough oil here in alaska and the gulf to supply our needs plus.
and with bio coming on line faster everyday we could be out of the import and into the export of fuel bus. real soon

problem is folks that run big oil or are in their hip pocket, dont want to loose this huge profit margin or get out of the "voyage from mideast" ,mindset

we could turn off all OPEC imports,,,,,

so until folks like you and me and the rest of our countrymen stand up and raise three kinds of HE## its not going to change

look at wind energy, WOW what a concept virtually free energy, no pollutants, etc. well the batteries do have acid, but its very minimual compared to oil and coal

and some areas are perfect for wind farms. LIKE islands of the northeast coast that have to pipe in electricity at a very high cost...... but those folks that have houses there are against a wind farm becuase it might ruin his (kennedy again) view....... even though they are almost just out of sight over the horizon and he couldnt see em if he tried cept for a small dot on the horizon
give me a break DA. geuss your island gets triple the cost for power now DA.

Robert,
You cruel mean insensitive person, how dare you not take into consideration all of the rare horned rim, ducked bill, spotted wingless, croation worbllers that would be horribly maimed or killed by these massive blades of death swinging thru the air with no regard for migratory fowl!!!!:roflmao :roflmao :roflmao

I honestly saw a press video from some whackjob animal rights group that came out against wind power because of how it decimates bird populations:wow

95 I know I know, bringing in the gov't usually makes things worse, but can't a taxpayer dream, not smoking anything but maybe I should consider it:rolleyes: I promise not to inhale though.

I look at it this way...at least the US Oil industry can afford
to pay & hire...companies that MAKE money HIRE & INJECT
cash back into the economy.

Ask any TEXAN who lived thru the 80's which he'd rather have....
3buck a gallon fuel or UNEMPLOYMENT...
