ok i know the engine has to come out but there has to be some tricks to doing it in the truck.if not what exactly do i need to remove to get it out?the owner wants to goop it up but im not comfortable with doing that but he will also pay for the pan and replacing it.

if you are going to "goop it" if he needs the truck or doesnt have money, drain the oil, snadblast the leaky rot spots, and skim coat it with jb weld. its a temporary fix that will last forever.

I have done oil pans on other fords not on PSD equipped SD trucks by simply loosening the engine mounts and lifting the engine up to the point that it hits the firewall. In these trucks you'd need to pull the downpipe to help give you a bit more space. It was always tight on those trucks but they had a real oil pan gasket not RTV from the factory.

To replace the pan correctly the engine has to be removed and turned upside down for the sealant to cure over night.

yeah, its a total pain to pull the motor and do it the right way.

i have read about people cutting the pan in half and then welding it in place. seems kinda sketchy. i would tig it if i were to do it. and the clearance under there it not good.

I've seen 2 trucks done without pulling the engine, that was 3 salty seasons of snow plowing ago and no leaks yet.
