I have a 2000 Power Stroke and am told the oil pan needs replacing. Now I am told this is fairly common and horribly expensive as the engine has to come out. I am also told there is a two pice pan that can be put in without removing engine. ANyone know about this?

I am no mechanic. However mine says it is blistered etc and he could put his finger through it in some places. I have heard here have been troubles with the oil pan.

SAE ... yes there was/is an issue with some 7.3 Oil pans prematurely rusting out. I am unfamiliar with a 2 piece pan for our truck (doesn't mean it doesn't exist) When the dealer replaced my engine ... about 200,000 miles ago the engine they put in looked as though it was dipped in a thick oil base paint, that has held up fairly well to the environment. oh and welcome to the site...

I am also not aware of a 2pc oil pan for the 7.3's. Is it leaking?
If it's not leaking as of yet I would just cover it in grease for now, trying not to disturb the rust and wait until it starts to leak. I sprayed mine with a can of multi-purpose grease (I also touched it up before every winter) and the pan still looked like new when I got rid of the truck even with 225K miles+, mostly winter driven too.

I coated my pan about 2 years ago with a kit I got from Por-15. It had a lot of orange peal rust on it and looked a little like it was about to leak but the coating stopped the rust and it has held for at least 2 years.

I think I saw something bout it. its not really a professional made pan. it was some guys telling you to cut you old one off and take a new one and cut the new one in the same spot and then some how they secure the old and new together. if your looking for a shortcut try the epoxy paints these guys are showing you. otherwise trade up trucks, they got great deals going on right now.
