Changed my oil today and when I pulled the oil filter out there was a piece of plastic on top of the filter. After looking at it it seems as if this plastic piece belongs on the actual screw on cap it self? The center of it looks like something is missing or broke. I removed it off the old filter and placed it on my new one. It went together fine but just dont like knowing that something in there isnt perfectly the way it supposed to be. Has anyone seen this or had this problem? Am I taking a chance of messing something up in the engine?

It not that. The filter has 4 prongs on top. The plastic thing I am talking about is concave and looks as if it might snap on the filter or hold down in some way. If I had to guess its probably part of the actual screw on cap. This is my first oil change since buying this truck so forgive me for not knowing all the terminoligy. Any help is greatfully appreciated. By the way what is a CCV mod?

I could be part of the cap then...I didn't even think about that. There are some prongs inside there that retain the filter cartrige. I don't have any pics of that.

CCV mod...or crank case ventilation...If you look at the blue boots on the intercooler tubes, you will more than likely see an oily residue. This is cause by the CCV gases being introduced into the intake air stream. The oil in the air finds places to go while moving thgougt the system.

The CCV mod itself re-routes the CCV tube from the intake to elsewhere...I've seen just open under the engine bay, into the exhaust system, or into a small filter and catch can added to the truck. It is a good idea I think, and I plan do do this one some time this year.

Sounds like you are using aftermarket filters. Don't! Use the OEM and you do not need the plastic "adapter".
