Oil Filter (Fill or Not To Fill?)

I always fill mine.

ps, if you need to be worried about you'r new oil being filtered when you prefill you'r filter, maybe you should try a better brand of oil? :dunno

I fill mine through the big hole which when installed is the oil outlet. Most I've purchased have a rubber one way anti-drainback valve on the small ports so they need some pressure to get the oil in there anyway.

Don't fill the large port with the threads only fill the surrounding smaller holes where the oil will be filtered prior to starting the engine. Dirty oil enters the large port and then is returned filtered.

But when you fill a new filter it's new oil so how does it matter? :dunno I pre-fill my oil filter but not my bypass filter (it's mounted horizontally).
