I've done several searches without any luck......Is there an aftermarket oil filter body for the 6.0 liter? Does the OEM unit require anything other than the typical strap wrench to remove it? I read where someone was going to try to install a drain cock on the bottom. Sounds like a great idea as I used to punch a hole in the bottom of my old spin-ons.

what you talkin bout willis?

6.0 needs no strap wrench for the filter removal, just a socket about 1 1/4 i think, to unscrew the lid, and out pops the filter element, there is a aftermarket bypass system from oil guard see pic below that replaces teh current 6.0 element lid with one with a port to access oil under pressure to go to a bypass 1 micron filter then return to the crankcase throuhg the oil fill pipe (another special piece)
the 7.3 stil uses a big fat qt and half filter hanging off the block

you kno w as i posted teh pics, it occurred to me i may have found a custom cap for my HFCM under the frame.

Thanks Robert. If you can't tell, I've yet to actually SEE my new 6.0 liter, and the wait is killin' me. Your pics help alot. I didn't know that Ford had moved the filter to the top, only that they had gone to a replaceable core.

Okay! Okay!
As F350DRW1 said, read my signature.
I'm replacing my '00 7.3 with a new '07 6 liter. I ordered it in May with an expected delivery in August, so no, I haven't actually seen my new truck yet.
As I did six years ago, I use these forums to gather valuable information and insights into the care of my new truck before it arrives.
Little things like the improved drain plug for the frame rail mounted fuel filter and how to wire up the fast idle circuit to one of my up-fitter switches aren't in any how-to book. So "thanks" to everyone for putting the information out there for all to share.
