Oil Fill from Factory

It was only down 1/2 qt. I was getting ready to take off on a 1000 mile trip pulling a trailer and I just wanted to top off the oil in order for the engine to have plenty. What weight do most of you use? I was thinking of going to 15-40 at the first change.

I'd just keep an eye on it, until it needs a full quart. These things have plenty of oil. 1/2 a Qt. low is minor, IMO. Many engines will "Eat" a 1/2quart or so.. soon after an oil change, then, not any more for quiet awhile. My 7.3 does.

15 W 40 is used a lot and so is 5 W 40. I am running 5 W 40 in my 6.0. 10 W 30 is for gas motors.

Times 2. 5 W 40 Rotella T6 full syn. in the dezel.. 10 W 30 Castrol in the Gasser. (think'n 'bout going full Syn. in that soon too.)

I took mine in to the dealer for it being over the full mark on the dip stick. I'll report back and let you know what they say.

I have a feeling they are going to change the oil (which hey...no complaints...thats a free oil change!) and tell me to monitor it...

Yea,
My 2000 SD diesel used oil for the first 25k or so. Now it does not at all.
