I loaned my truck to some deserving young folks last week, and they embarked on a trip of about 300 miles. I was supposedly helping them....

On arrival, they parked at a restaurant for lunch, came out and saw an oil slick under the truck. ... fast forward past, towing to dealer, etc and they dropped about $900 on an oil pump. Got home a day late, but happy and safe.

Underside of truck is now nicely oiled. Brakes pull hard right. Etc. I don't have the repair ticket (yet) for a part number, but they didn't replace the HPOP for sure. Seems they must have replaced an internal lubricating pump...

Was this a fluke? Any input appreciated...!!!

Geez, like you guys have control over a random internal part failure. Give me a break! Or your secret.

The person driving it did not cause the failure. First time i've ever heard of an oil pump dump oil. They prolly charged them to replace the o rings on the bottom of the hpop.

Correct, they did not cause the failure. ;tu But the parts list on the ticket includes a front oil pump. The HPOP is untouched. There is a sheen of oil from stem to stern. I had 2 o-ring kits under the seat, and they didn't use them...and believe me, it was on the bottom side for sure.

Tonight, I got into it to see better...they pulled the oil pan off (don't know if they had to lift the engine), replaced a pump, 2 bolts, and other smaller items. Didn't charge for oil, and it is an inch too high on the damn dipstick!!!

I called the dealer (out of state) and of course they were busy and would call back, and didn't.

But, I still don't understand where the oil was coming from...:dunno I'm also wondering what to check for engine damage (assuming it was run low on oil), but the driver said the oil pressure light never came on. First clue they had was when they came out of the restaurant and saw the Valdez in the parking lot, so to speak.
