This just in! Fumoto valve owners beware: Apparently there is a growing paranoia that your oil may be drained on you by vandals. Nascar Mike and Kleetus have expressed concern about this latest act of domestic terrorism and have indicated that "some smart ass" or a "pos" could randomly climb under your truck at a mall or other parking venue and drain your oil, leaving you essentially "screwed". The Fumoto valve company did not answer our calls directly but a company spokesperson, speaking on terms of anonymity, said "we are working on a solution and will market a more stealthy valve shortly". Film at 11.
all these things COULD happen but in all the NEGATIVE postings on ALL
the forums the one thing ive NEVER read about is some one having had
their valve opened while they were parked.
ive never read or seen a report of one having been knocked off by
a rock, curb or other object.
they make a clip that prevents accidental opening of the valve...
the valve NEVER hangs lower than the front axle.
if your that hated by people that theyre likely to take the time to get DIRTY
and crawl under your truck to let the oil out then you really need take a
look at your life.
its more likely (and easier) that someone will cut your valve stems or knife
your side walls then they bother to take the time to crawl under your truck
to 1) see if you have the valve and 2) let 15qts out on the parking lot
My main point was that the Fumoto valve leaves oil in the pan.
Sure I could invent even more stories about what could be done to your truck but isn't the point of draining your oil is to get all of the old contaiminated oil out?
Besides, if people are willing to crawl under cars and trucks to steal cat converters, what makes you think they wouldn't turn the drain valve? Likely - no, but I wont take that chance.
Well, following that train of thought anyone with an adjustable wrench could do the same damage. Luckily we have volume and pressure sensors that would shut the engine down if we didn't notice this huge pool of oil under the vehicle. BTW, if you use 2 drain plug gaskets the height difference of the stock plug and the Fumoto [going into the pan] is less than 1/8 of an inch.
oil may be left in the pan...ill agree...but there is .95 quarts LEFT in
the HPOP reservoir during each drain/change of the pan ANYWAY.
i realize our pans are pretty big (enough that they hold 14quarts on
a daily basis) but i doubt what remains in the pan from the fomoto
valve threads is more than the .95qt in the HPOP reservoir.
My oil testing shows NO ill effects from oil change to oil change...
This is exactly what I found on my 5.0 engine when I rebuilt it. A thin layer of crud at the bottom of the pan that I had to nearly chisel out. Since the 5.0 pan is humped to clear the steering rack, I had two oil drains. A fumoto valve would not fit on the front because the sway bar was in the way so I used a regular oil plug for the front. Guess what? No crud in the front part of the oil pan, only where the Fumoto valve was.
I used my Fumoto drain valve for over 50k miles, changing the oil every 3k miles. No sludge buildup anywhere else in the engine.
