Oil Change

I change oil every 3000 miles, but my local dealer told me that was overkill. I'm going to start changing probably every 5000 miles. I do little or no towing and off roading once or twice a month.

how many people have actually done an oil analysis (like with blackstone.com)? I am curious how the oil looks at 5K, 7.5K, or even 10K miles. I would do this but my truck only sees maybe 2,000 miles a year.

Oil change schedule

I changed my oil for the first time at 2000 miles, to get out any possible debris that might have found its way into the engine at buildup at the factory. My next oil change will be at 5000 miles, then every 5000 miles after that. The way I use my truck, I probably could go much longer between oil changes, but the cost of an oil change is cheap compared to premature wear.

I build (gas) race engines (427 and 428 Ford FE) for fun, and always after initial startup, and break in, I change the oil and filter. Cheap insurance. I have never had an oil related engine failure with any of my engines.

I did my first oil change at 1500mi and 5000mi after. I also use rotella 15W40 and lucas addative and a good filter. Keep a progamer staged up and that oil gets nasty fast plus I have a heavy right foot and oil is cheap insurance.

I'm on the 7500 mile change interval even with an Amsoil bypass filter and using mostly synthetic Rotella.
