According to the owners manual I am supposed to change the oil every 7500 miles. I did the first at 5000 and now I am sitting at almost 8000. Do you guys wait 7500 to change the oil. Most of my driving is pretty normal with very little towing going on. Would it be better to go by hours?

Your thoughts???

I go 5000 miles between oil changes. You have a very expensive engine, don't you think you should keep your oil fresh and clean over trying to save a dollar?

Of course but I also want to do what the owners manual says. Why would it say 7500 if it should be 5000. My car says 3000 but should I change it at 1500 just because?

Fly boy, I agree with you totally. Being a former auto technician of high end cars also with expensive engines, I still see no need to do early oil changes just because or people thinks it is cheap insurance. However, as tech, sure come on down, I'll take your money. Bottom line, unless you are doing severe duty follow what the book says. 7000-7500 will be just fine for you. I work in the metric system and my book says very 12,000 km for normal duty and 8,000km for severe duty. I do every 10,000 km because I tow my traval trailer alot in the summer and 10,000 is a good round even number to remember. 10,000km is about 6,200 miles to put it in perspective.

I change my oil every 3000 miles but my truck is big, (lifted w/big tires) does alot in-town driving and frequently hauls a trailer.
