I bought a handful of postage-paid oil analysis kits from Blackstone Labs out of Indiana. They have a useful site including a letter to the post office advising that oil samples aren't hazardous material. I grabbed a sample this weekend at the 65k oil change (shore do like the drain valve I put into the pan!), packed in the neat plastic ziplock and exterior bottle with mailing label, and placed in the old mailbox, flag up.
My carrier has refused to pick it up twice, once without, and once with the letter from Blackstone attached. Seems they know what hazardous materials is, and that is that.
Any advice? I plan to conduct this a few times a year so need to figure out how to convince them. Is the postmaster the point of contact in a case like this? Thanks in advance for ideas.
