Is it just me, or does the mileage do better on highway without the cruise control on? I may just be delusional???:roflmao

It does. Reson being when going up a hill the cruise control will rev the rpms pretty high to maintain speed whereas you would have to press on the pedal a little more to maintain speed. It has amazed me how much the engine gets reved up when using cc only all my fords. The mustang, explorer, and my f250 all seem to kick into passing gear- like when you hit resume.

It does on the shorthauls. But drive 400 miles and it'll be about even, and your foot wont be numb! Cruise works great in a diesel.

I think it depends on what speed you are driving with the cruise on. I have found that my truck down shifts going up hills 3 or 4 times more often at 55 mph than it does at 65 mph. In that situation it is more efficent at 65 than it is at 55.

That would be true. I never considered that as I only use cruise control on long hauls when I am running around 65.

Another issue is that cruise control is not anticipatory like you are. When you see a hill coming, you roll into itbefore the hill and maintain momentum up the hill. Cruise waits until the hill bogs it down, then hits the throttle to regain speed up the hill, but your momentum is gone. Use cruise in the flatland, and use you in the hill country.

I get better mileage with my right foot! I've put 48,000 miles on my rig since 06/04 and have tested this a lot.

When I drove to Orlando, FL used foot from Amarillo to Lafayette, LA. Yielded 14.8(towing trade show booth) from 2 fuel stops. Lafayette to Tallahassee, FL for the rest of that days leg got me 13.6mpg with the cruise, since my leg was cramping after driving all night.

Same results on return trip. I even got better fuel mileage when keeping up:eek: with some big rigs in the hills of east TX between Shreveport and Dallas. 14.4mpg from Shreveport to Decatur(foot use), 13.3 from Gulf Port,MS to Shreveport, LA(Cruise @2100 rpm on the EVO data streams.) The trucks I was running with were moving a good pace and engine was spun substantially higher the whole time I was using my foot through east TX.:D
