Pulling 5th wheel on the maiden outting everything fine until ........
i get of the exit felt a slight bobble in the tranny then ......flash flash the "Off" light started flashing and trans started shifting hard. Stopped to visit inlaws which were apprx .5 miles away from where this all started. Left there after about an hour pulled home fine no flash. However upon backing into the driveway i could see a path of tranny fluid . I don't think it was alot but enough to cause concern.. Any ideas ?? tranny was replaced with a remanf !@ 23K mile it currently has 51K. Geez 25K out of a tranny is a little weak to say the least....thinking i should have got a duramax. truck is an 03 7.3 with e4od .

OD light flashing and hard shifts is the tranny's "limp home" mode. Do you have a trans temp gauge? Hate to tell you this, but reman trannys are junk. The TC is a very weak point, you have the 4R100 in your truck.

But I am guessing that the tranny got hot, and you are now pushing fluid out the front seal.

Dang gage never indicated anything out of normal operating range. pretty sure it is an e40d atleast that is what the window sticker indicated. is there an easy way to tell?
Checked fluid level and it was within range drove some today and no leak has appeared yet ..... reman tranny still under warrenty for another 6K miles. think they would just give me $$ towards one of them there fancy ones? What are the big names for these trranies?

i would go to the place that remanufactured it, and
by chance how heavy was the trailer, and your truck is a 250/350???? year XXXX

and yep the stock tranny gauge is a glorified idiot light, it will move but only when she is REAL hot, then its to late
let us know

Robert, he says its an 03 w/7.3L in it.

So.................. they quit the E4OD's in 97 in the PSD's and went with the 4R100 in the new SD line. If the tranny shop stuck an E4OD in there I'd wanna know why. Though there is very little difference between the two, the TC is one of the main differences.

Cant trust that in-dash guage. Its just an idoit light with a needle on it. Gotta have an aftermarket guage installed for the real reading.

I doubt they will give you a cash refund but you could try, they will most likely want to rebuild your rebuilt with the same exact parts that failed the first time.

Well i think that pretty much narrow the tranny down to the 4r100. The second tranny was a ford reman from the sharonville ohio transmission plant. It was replaced at 23K under warrenty and still has warrenty left on it. I hate to get another pos from ford but if it is free i will ride that horse till it dies, then get a better one. I am towing a 5th wheel @ apprx 10K Lbs.
A question would be when do you use the "od off" button???? if i maually go in and out of od when the hills or situation call for it is that ok? Is that not what the tow / hual function in the newer trucks do???

I notice when i went to od in flat areas the temp went down apprx the width of the needle.

Trans is not dripping currently is there a relief valve in the bell housing? seems to shift fine now and level is still within "normal " range.

If the OD light was blinking then it set a (or some) codes in the PCM, get the codes read soon. As far as your od off question, sounds like you are doing it right. I only take it out of OD if its hunting for gears or if my EGTs are getting high.

you can tow in OD and do just what you said turn off OD in hills and such,
if feels lik eits lugging then turn off od, until you can get the rpms back up and the ground levels off, this is whay i like the tqshift so much, its almost a perfect towing auto matic, it still needs a double overdrive for times when your empty.
keeping the tq locked down in OD towing heavy up good grades, your stretching the tq converter limits, ours dropped and chattered the whole way up the mountain,
and if your running a chip or programer they will keep od locked into an area of danger under full load and hard throttle ,
