Yeah, the safe boost levels are the same for OBS or SD which is right at 25 psi. You can get more out of the OBS turbo due to the fact that it isnt wastegated and has a more aggressive compressor wheel. The SD defuels at levels above 25 psi.

Other differences were
  • an intercooler in the SD's
  • a more aggressive HPOP (15° in the OBS vs 17° in the SD)
  • different fuel pump (mechanical in OBS vs electric in SD)
  • different tranny options and gearing options in the SD's
  • the SD's had larger injectors and a higher horsepower rating out of the gate
  • dual fuel tanks in the OBS, big single in the SD
  • theres more, i cant member it all right now.....:sorry


oh yeah Rich, I was getting 40 psi outta the hair dryer on my 95 too.:thumbs

okay so if you could have your pick of any of a brand new truck from any of the powerstroke years which would it be,keep in mind any year you pick would be brand new with all options availible.

the point is to see everybodys opinion on the trucks,what they like and why they like it,just some entertainment thats all,should i not be posting things like this or what?

well not a total waste.but probably better suited for the general discussion forum.but anyways

id have to go for a 96 or 97 PSD same as what i have already.but i may also go for a 99 crew cab dually diesel.depends on what kind of mood i was in while looking at them.:thumbs
