Gurus,

I have a SES light on and attempted to read the codes at "VatoZone" the other day with thier scanner - I tried both models they had and it was unable to link to the system.

Where would be a good place to start in order to fix this?

do you mean it was physically unable to connect or once connected the computer and reader did not communicate?

It was physically connected and recieved power; however it would not link in order to read the codes.

it was probably not compatible with your truck. If you know anyone with an Edge it works on the 7.3. Not sure where you find any list of what works or doesnt but I would suspect that as the most likely reason at this point.

OOO! OOO! OOO! Mr Kotter! Mr Kotter!
check for blown fuses in both the underhood as well as the underdash panels ('cause I can't remember where it is)... but there is a 10 amp fuse that powers the OBD-II link and it WILL set a fault code if it's blown

(actually saw this at work last week)

Ford uses CAN communications protocol for a lot of the diesels. I am not sure about yours, but if the scanner can't communicate with the truck, this is the problem. You need a later scanner like an AutoEnginuity. This is a program that goes on your laptop computer. I have one and it is great.
