O/D switch took a sh*^

Yeah, I had this problem with my truck and took it to the dealer after checking the switch. Turned out to be the wiring and cost $236.45. Ouch! I probably would have just gone without the button had I known it would be that much. I never rested my hand on the shifter and it did it anyway so I don't think they are linked.

I wonder if moving the tilt steering wheel up/down might cause them to wear out?

it will wear the wiring for the blinkers out... my friends blinkers only work if the wheel is in a certain place... not sure if the od wires are ran the same way... i would say they are

I have found the wires break up higher than where the steering column pivots. I think they break from moving the shifter through the gears.
On the turn signal problem the wires pull out of the connector for the multi function switch due to the tilt column and a new hard shell connector is usually all you need to repair this issue.
