ford did not put a dana in the rear of any of their light duty trucks (f-150 through 550) except the s130. they all had ford 8.8 or 9.75 in the 150's.........ford 10.5's in the 250 and 350's, and dana s135's in the 450 and 550's with the exception of a few rigs........

odds are your truck has a ford 10.5 inch rear end...

i hope youre talkin about the 99-up trucks.my 94 f450 has a dana 80 in it.my 95 F350 has a dana 70 HD from an e 350 in it.and all the one ton car carriers ive had had dana 60s in them

somebodys strongly misinformed because yes ford did use dana 80s in f350 duallys that is the only rearend in the superduty bodystyle duallys they have ever use. next point of oreder a detriot is about 725 for you dana 80 and an arb is about 750 + you need a small air compressor (i reccommend thier little 110$ one because it comes with an entire wiring harness that is plugnplay except like 3 wires. the reason that an air locker is better for a street driven truck is that a detriot is going to constantly be trying keep equal rear tire speed so it is going to do one of two things either scrub one tire as you turn and make turning harder or unlocker and then when you straighten out and step on it chirp a tire and slam locked. either way its really hard on parts.

Glad to hear is was repaired fairly cheap. You have what Dana calls a Track lock. I am just glad I was correct in you having a Dana 80

I come from a Jeep background, driving a mazda truck haha... Track lock=Trash locks from around here. Maybe they've got better products for our Fords.

I thought you would have a Sterling 10.5 Axle in it... didn't you say the guy told you it was a good "learning experience"? If it was me I wouldn't like to hear that. O well, too bad I heard all this info too late, I got my YUKON gears and posi-locker from Randy's Ring n Pinion... nice stuff. Worked great in my mazda... you can't hear anything and you can go around turns as long as you don't torque it. You torque it and it locks right up.

That is correct on all the dually (DRW) SuperDuty 350 having Dana 80 rear ends.

Before 2002, the SRW 4x4 Excursion and Super Duty F250/350 have a Dana 50 front with Ford Sterling/Visteon 10.5" rear.

In 2002 they changed over to Dana 60 front and Dana 80 rear.

odds are your truck has a ford 10.5 inch rear end...and as was said in a prior post, i would think your pinion bearings were probably the root cause but if metal was run through the ring and pinion, it should be replaced. i would highly reccomend a limited slip, and have them set it up "tight". by saying this i mean that by telling them that, htey will set the clutch packs in the limited slip up with a slightly larger shim than would be considered standard. the larger shim will produce some "chatter" during tight turning manuvers such as parking lot slow turns. the chatter wil be the clutch packs not wanting to slip. this is kind of a nusance, but it helps the locking function of the diff and will make it perform better offroading since a Posi or Limited slip is not a true locker........Marc

That is not what the owners manual says. 10.5" for SRWs, Dana 80 for duals and the 450 and 550 get a Dana 110 I believe.
