I have used this "Tymar" style intake for about 4 months now and love it. It is very affordable ( about $100 ) and you can do it yourself for less if you can find some 4" pipe. It is very noisy:thumbs but if I wanted a quiet truck I would be driving a gasser. From what I have noticed, most people have either Tymar, AIS, or the AFE. Just depends on how much you want to spend:sweet

Give Dale at Tymar a call. He sells his Tymar intakes at a affordable price and as far as performance goes they are as free flowing as you can get.

i also run the Tymar stlye filter.all mine is, is the filter slipped over the intake boot, and a piece of 4'' long 4'' dia. exhaust pipe that replaces the plastic CCV connector. it's still there in the pics.

We also run with the Tymar setup in our '02 Excursion,no mo' smoke on hard accelerations:D :sweet

i still get lots of smoke :thumbs but that is on fuel7, plus its going to be even more smoke with my 1.15 slow-spool housing im getting. :cool:

The AIS is not a performance mod, it is simply to get more/better air filtration than the stock POS airbox.

I would not use a K&N. I am really not a fan of oiled guaze filters at all. i have an AFE stage 1 on my truck now, but not for much longer. I think the only oiled guaze I would run on my truck is the AFE Proguard 7 filter, which has shown in the test data I've read to be the only guaze filter I've seen that can hold up tot he filtration of a quality papar filter.

As soon as i get time, I am going to build a tymar-type intake and use the big cannister paper filter from Napa. This intake filters as good as the AIS (the Napa filter is a Donaldson, also) and flows as good as an AFE. It is the best of all worlds. The best part is it costs about $70 bucks for all the parts. I am going to modify my AFE box to fit the bigger paper filter, and then it will still seal to the hood.

Of course this is all when I get time... Until then.., :burnit

Don't know about that. According to WIX, the 46637 is only rated at 425 CFM.

Also, Donaldson (the actual maunfacturer of most of these) lists the BO85011, which cross references with Wix 46637 and NAPA 6637, as a "light dust operating condition filter" whatever that means.

My post was in reference to some test data I had seen once. THe paper filters outperformed cotton gauze hands down. (The filter used was the 4467 IIRC).

As far as the AIS goes, I was just regurgitating what I'd learned from a Ford tech a few month ago. It was never intended to be a performance mod, just a "better filtration" mod. If it does increase performance, then that is cool as heck, but I only know what I've been told.

Thanks for the info, Clux, I think I'm gonna have to look into an AIS now!

You guys must be trying to confuse me!:confused:-popcorn :dunno I just ordered my gauges and a chip from DP Tuner, and still need to figure out about the intake. I am trying to decide between the AIS and the S&B, my only worry is that the AIS doesn't flow much more than stock. I don't really need to be buying anything else but I also can't see getting the new chip without getting an intake. :sweet :burnit

Also does anybody know if the switch from DP Tuner comes with numbers or if there is any other options besides this one from BCD?
