I was playin ball (watching it rain) in Witchita,KS yesterday....and my mom and dad were in our 2004 F250 King Ranch driving to the stadium.....my dad described this:

they were at a light and the truck wouldn't go....he said if he push the go pedal the truck would blow a thick dust looking smoke....the rpms wouldn't go up...no lights came on...the truck putted through the light to a gas station....he said he shut it off and turned it back on and when he put it in gear it did the same thing....when he put it neutral and pushed the gas the rpms would go up and the smoke would pour...also he said it smelt like burnt rubber or plastic.....he said he finally just put it in gear and mashed the gas he said it just spit and puttered and poured the smoke and slowly it came out of it and started running normal.....

my mom said that this has happend to her twice:eek:

I don't have a clue what it's doing....and like i said there was no light....so

Any thoughts on what this might be....please let me know:thanks

All of that black smoke makes me think it mite be a turbo not
turning like it should. Sounds like it time to go to the stealler ship.

black means FUEL...potential OVER fuel...but by
the sounds of this seems TRANSMISSION related...
if it WONT go when in gear & the rpms spin up when its
OUTTA GEAR (but wont rev when IN GEAR)

it sounds like a potential torque converter or trans issue...
but again im guessing.

there WILL be engine codes (the check engine light or service
engine soon lights will NOT necessarily "illuminate" when there ARE
codes present. (the cel/ses/mil light is not an indication that of
trouble or trouble FREE systems)

yeah i hear you guys but thats the thing.....the smoke was NOT Black it was like a dust color and was very thick.....he said that he didn't hear the turbo spooling so....we will go read it and see what it says....thanks for your suggestions

P.S. Bama it was not running hot....and he said it was kinda like when a gasser is flooded....if that gives you a better illustration of what was happening.

If a boost tube had come off then it wouldn't go back to running normal. I would guess turbo problems such as the adjustable veins being stuck. Like I said, just a guess.

good point...cause this has happened at least twice and both times the truck seems to run fine after a few minutes.....like i said earlier when he push the gas and held on her...she finally just spit and puttered her way out of it...nothing under the hood seems to be messed up....(no coolant overflowed....no boost tubes off...etc)

do you think if i took the intake off the turbo i could see something?....

i don't know whats going on...no codes...truck runs like a camp right now....this is weird:confused:
