i seem to have read in a thread awhile ago, that if you only have defrost in the cab, then you have a vacuum leak. check and see if its doing that.

This happened to me. Blew a hub seal. Ive read another guy on here has blown 2 already under 60,000 miles. Instead of paying the $500 plus for the repair I'm getting some WARN premium hubs put in without the vacuum crap. Nothing to break! I have no issues getting out and locking the hub, when I need 4 x 4 in the snow, I NEED it so id rather have the warns. If its not a hub seal it could be in the vacuum lines going to the hubs, or to the dash controls. It could also be a leak in the vacuum storage container (don't know the proper name lol).

Cheers
Jeff

Nope.....vents are working fine. Is there a vacuum line that goes to the dash control for the 4x4 though? I wonder if that is bad or has fallen off?
Will have to check.

Anyone know what is involved in replacing one of these hub seals???

This is odd because if a hub seal had a leak, the vents shouldn't work unless its different between 03 and 04. We isolated the leak by popping the vacuum line off each sides hub one at a time and plugging it and seeing if the vacuum pump would shut off. Maybe some one can provide some more insight.

The wheel hub assy isn't any trouble to get off. Took me about an hour to change the wheel bearings. remove the tire, remove the brake caliper, removed the hub, remove the snap ring on the axle shaft behind the hub, then reach inside the knuckle (where the u-joint is) and removed 4 nuts from the studs going into the spindle/hub assy. Then it'll just pull right out in your hand.
