i have a 05 and when towing anything around 5000+ it gets hot on the highway around 60-65 mph. i have a intake a 4 inch exhaust and a superchips programmer. but it seems to do it in stock mode to. if i speed up it will cool off almost immediately, but if i let up it gets hotter. it also blows wate out of the coolant tank. i just drove from tennesee to oklahoma and used about a gallon of water. any help would be great:thumbs

This sounds like a blown head gasket. You need to see if you have any water to water in the exhaust or exhaust in the coolant. go to a radiator shop.

is it blowing any white smoke out the tailpipe? if so, it could be your EGR cooler.

also, it would be a good idea to check and see if the coolant bottle is cracked and leaking.

just this past weekend i thought i had blown head gaskets or a bad water pump, but it turned out to be a cracked coolant bottle. i went thru 2 gallons of coolant in 5 days.

Whoa... you speed up and it gets cooler?

Dunno if that's a head gasket, that sounds like you're fan crapped out. More speed would mean more heat generated, if you back out of it, I'm thinking that the water pump isn't moving as fast and therefore not taking off as much heat.

If it was a gasket failure, more speed would be more gas leaking by, and more overtemp. Slower running is less gas leakage, and less temp.

Reason I'm thinking fan is higher speed is more airflow across the rad.

Dave, did I miss something obvious?

ok guys i new these questions would be comin lol, no it does not blow ANY white smoke. and i believe the fan is working properly cause it comes on and doesnt let off till it cools alll the way down. it also has a weird ruff spot at the around the same rpm as the overheating. and if the reservoir is cracked will it still build pressure? mine builds lots of pressure. thanks for any help guys

I think I would take the superchips programmer off of the truck and take it to the Ford Dealer and let them work on it under warranty.
